A Day in the Life of Dizzie Rascal ... By Zuhur

Dylan Mills known professionally as Dizzie Rascal is a 19 year old, Mercury award-winning rapper. His music has an eclectic mixture of garage and hip-hop beats, occasionally accompanied by other styles. Dizzie Rascal grew up in Bow, East London and was raised by his single mother on a council estate. “All my teachers called me ‘rascal’,” he said, explaining his more widely known name.

In his early teens, the young star was detained for stealing cars and for robbing an innocent pizza deliveryman. After being thrown out of several schools in his past, the young rapper found he was interested in one of his music classes, instructed by a particularly sympathetic teacher.
With support from his teacher, he began making his own music productions on the school computer. With occasional help, he began to develop his song-writing skills, which began to take on an increasingly introspective quality as he drew from his own life and various mind states.

In 2003, Dizzie Rascal was announced the winner of the Mercury Award. He was curiously uncomfortable was his success and was extremely surprised by the recognition he had suddenly received. "My real friends are still the same, we go out, we do whatever. It's as confusing for them as it is for you. People see you on the TV and that, and they forget that you're from the streets. All the public things that you get, success and other things, there's another side that people might not know too much about. They might think you're just saying these things in your lyrics. Shit does happen; you really experience these things on the streets and success - that can be a problem. A gift and a curse, you know what I mean?"

Dizzie Rascal visited the island of in Ayia Napa, and was involved in a scuffle in which he was dragged from his scooter and repeatedly knifed in the chest, back and buttocks. He was then taken to hospital for surgery. So Solid member Dwayne Vincent, who uses the stage name Megaman, was questioned by police and released without charge.
The fully recovered rap star is understandably guarded about the incident in Ayia Napa, attempting to brush it off as "a bit much". "I did just take it like every other thing that's happened to me. I've been through madness before, violence. You can't say you're from the street and talk shit if you haven't been through those kinds of experiences. You can't handle... I know that was a big thing, but I've been through stuff. How can I explain? When you do whatever stuff you do when you're from the street, you know what kind of thing can happen to you. When it happens to you, there's obviously a bit of shock and that, but you get over it, because you knew in the beginning that this could happen to me."
